John Wick: Chapter 2 was an enjoyable experience for me. I went in expecting more of the action from the previous movie as well as the continuation of the plot. This movie satisfied those expectations, but it did miss the mark in different areas.
The most exciting way John Wick: Chapter 2 satisfied me was through the choreography. I very much enjoyed the fast-paced, non-stop action sequences. The bulk of these scenes were well paced for my tastes and didn't outlast their welcome. The variety in tools John used to kill his opponents helped longer action sequences stay interesting. John's opponents themselves were varied and interesting as well, ranging from a one man fight to fighting an army of people.
Speaking of people, this part of the movie wasn't as satisfying I felt that some characters strongly relied on information that wasn't presented to the audience. There were some characters that felt like they were people I should have recognized due to how they impacted the plot. I know that there is a bunch of mystery involving what John did in the past. However, the way these people from John's past were pulled into the present seemed forced. A bit more exposition involving those characters would have been appreciated.
One thing I did appreciate was how the move picked up right where the previous one left off. There are a lot of other movies out there where their sequel takes place after a large period of time later. This does wonders for continuity of the plot. There is little guesswork or wonder regarding what John did in the time between movies.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed John Wick Chapter 2. The strong points solidly outweigh the weak ones. I went in expecting “Keanu Reeves as a Badass: in Part 2” and I got what I expected. Definitely a good movie, and I can't wait to see more.
